It's deeply concerning that International Non-Governmental Organizations (iNGOs) and USAID prime contractors are the primary voices arguing against the reevaluation and deprioritizing of foreign aid by the US Government via the Executive Order. It's widely acknowledged that a significant portion of US aid fails to reach its intended beneficiaries, with the exceptions being in health and food distribution sectors, which themselves require more intelligent distribution strategies and reassessment.
This situation is nurturing an entire industry that resists innovation and progress. Even efforts towards localization have been met with resistance.
A shift towards a market-driven approach, rather than reliance on charity funds, is imperative. Current foreign aid practices are distorting local private sector enterprises in Africa, stifling their growth and innovation. It's high time for a comprehensive review of these aid mechanisms to ensure they support sustainable development and economic boost rather than dependency."
Would this US aid freeze impact developing countries negatively? We would get to know soon in the coming weeks, months, and years.
